The biomechanics lab at Schiller Park-based Life Fitness is all about the pursuit of a perfect interface between human and machine. For their work on the Summit, a "climber" that's essentially a hybrid of other existing LF equipment and technologies, the team devised a "new motion" for users to experience. Here's how they did it.
The Summit, launched in October of 2006, combines the best of total body cross-training and climbing with an upper and lower body workout that simulates a trek in the mountains. Among the product's 27 exercise programs are four goal-based workouts and 5 Zone Training+ workouts, which automatically adjust the product’s resistance to keep users in their target heart rate zones.
In business nearly 30 years, Life Fitness, a division of Brunswick Corp. (NYSE: BC), is the largest commercial fitness equipment provider in the world. The company distributes its equipment in more than 120 countries.
