Sittercity.com Grows Up

The company passed the million-dollar mark in revenues at the beginning of '06. This year, it's rolling out six new "in-home care" services under its Sittercity umbrella, including pet sitting. CEO Genevieve Thiers, along with her business partner (and fiance) Dan Ratner, are also planning on taking the company international.

The company generates revenue primarily through monthly and yearly subscriptions. Other channels include advertising and a recently launched corporate program that counts Fox, Monster and Avon as clients.

Sittercity serves half-million users nationwide, and employs 14 full-time people, five part-timers and 300 additional part-timers across the country, used for recruiting.

Thiers is also active in a regional opera company, while Ratner is chairman of the Nanotechnology Alliance.
