In a presentation before the Business Marketing Association on January 18, CSO Mary Delaney tells the "David and Goliath" story of how, in July 2006, the company passed its largest competitor, Monster.com, in U.S. revenue. She also explains her tactics for building a "revenue force" that sells job postings to over 250,000 people on a website that has over 22 million unique visitors a month.
Five years ago, CareerBuilder.com was one-fifth the size in revenue of Monster.com. Through aggressive sales and marketing strategies, the company was able to grow that revenue annually by more than 75%. So after leading the industry in job postings and traffic for more than two years, CareerBuilder.com in July 2006 overtook its rival: For the first six months of 2006, its North American revenues were $329 million, compared to Monter's $323 million.
