Peter Tapling, CEO of Authentify, took home the prize at the Illinois Technology Association's CityLIGHTS award for "Rising Star," which is presented to the company that has emerged from its start-up phase to become a solid player in the marketplace. To be eligible, the company must have at least $1 million in annual revenue.

The event was held April 12 at the Drake Hotel.

Authentify has 15 employees and processes 2 million "authentification events" every month for clients like eBay, Amazon and PayPal.
