The producer of the hit PBS restaurant-review show is looking for $1.5 to $2 million in outside funding to build out and expand CheckPlease.tv to different cities, as well as to syndicate content to other media outlets. Here he talks about why the concept will work, what he'd spend the money on, who the competition is, and why he thinks it promises a good payout for investors.
Now in its 7th season, Check, Please! is a forum for real people (i.e., not food critics or cooks) to give their restaurant recommendations. In Chicago, the show airs Friday nights on WTTW 11 at 8pm, and on Tuesday and Friday nights on NBC 5 during the 6 O’Clock news. Manilow has already expanded the show to San Francisco and other markets.
