Life's a Stitch

Albert Karoll — owner of Richard Bennett Custom Tailors in the Financial District — packs his fabrics and tape measures and goes where his customers are: down LaSalle street, to airports and even, on occasion, truck stops. His store has also survived the ultimate fashion indignity: business casual. Mr. Karoll’s custom sewn suits range typically run from $1500 to $2500 — and climb as high as 10 grand. Get them while you can, he says: the expert European tailors who work for him are a vanishing breed.
