Carving Out a Competitive Advantage at the "One-of-a-Kind" Show

At the Merchandise Mart's annual arts-and-crafts show, every item available is unique: all are made by hand, one piece at a time. But vying for attention (and sales) among the 400-plus vendors isn't easy. BusinessPOV asked nearly a dozen Chicago participans a simple question: What's so innovative about what you do?

The show is the largest fine art and fine craft exhibition and sale in the city, featuring original work from more than 400 juried artists and artisans from across North America, showcasing and selling their finest art and handcrafted creations. About 90 participants are from Illinois, with many from Chicago Visitors can meet the artists, learn the stories behind their work and shop the best in fine art and fine craft—from the simple to the lavish in all price ranges. Product categories include painting, sculpture, glass, photography, furniture, jewelry, and fiber art.
